WNYC Opens the Jerome L Greene Performance Space

Last night, WNYC had its grand opening event in the new Jerome L Greene Performance Space.

Performance Space

Performance space 2

The line-up of performing artists was outstanding, anchored by the New Music group Ethel performing a work by Osvaldo Golijov which I believe was commissioned for this event. John S had interviewed the Maestro prior to the event.

For me, the outstanding feature of this event was the doubly outstanding videocast. The quality of the video was what? Outstanding. Videocasts mean that those of us not fortunate enough to be able to afford the time and/or money to attend such events are still able to be “present”. Those of us who are fortunate enough but who are too lazy and/or cheap to attend can also take advantage of this wonderful new technology.

Today, I went looking in the New York Times for a review or report of last night’s event. Shock of shocks, no review, no report. While there was in fact a very nice article about the new space, it was printed on April 23, when very few people would have been looking for it. Today, when even just this article would have been newsworthy, nothing. WNYC has had a problem with the New York Times for a long while. I have gone to their management pointing out hideously glaring errors in their reportage and gotten no response.
